Capturing the Essence of “Staying Alive-HIV Stops with Me” Campaign: Behind the Lens

As the photographer behind the “HIV Stops with Me” campaign, I am thrilled to share the journey of capturing the essence of this powerful public health initiative. From the initial concept to the final images gracing the streets of New York City, every moment of this project has been incredibly meaningful.

The heart of the campaign lies in its message: “Undetectable = Untransmittable” (U=U). Through striking visuals and compelling narratives, we aimed to convey the empowering truth that individuals with HIV who maintain an undetectable viral load cannot transmit the virus to others. This message is not only a game-changer in the fight against HIV/AIDS but also a beacon of hope for those living with the virus.

During the shoot, I had the privilege of working closely with 30 individual spokesmodels who bravely shared their stories and experiences. Their strength and resilience served as inspiration for each photograph, capturing moments of joy, love, and solidarity.

As the pictures are being plastered across the city, I am filled with a sense of pride and purpose. Knowing that our work will spark conversations, challenge stigma, and promote understanding fills me with hope for a future free of HIV/AIDS-related discrimination.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making this campaign a reality – from the organizers and advocates to the participants and supporters. Together, we are making a difference, one photograph at a time.

As the campaign continues to make its mark on the streets of New York and around the state, I invite you to join us in spreading the message of “HIV Stops with Me.” Together, we can create a world where everyone feels seen, supported, and empowered in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
